Biweekly Painting Workshop: Mastering Color
A structured, hands-on workshop series designed to help participants understand and apply color theory through guided painting exercises. Each session focuses on a key aspect of color, blending instruction with practical application.
Workshop 1: The Color Wheel & Mixing Basics (March 18th 2025)
Participants will learn about primary, secondary, and tertiary colors, as well as concepts like hue, saturation, and value. They’ll mix their own color wheels and explore blending techniques before applying their knowledge to an abstract painting that focuses on color harmony.
Workshop 2: Warm vs. Cool Colors & Mood (April 1st 2025)
This session explores how warm and cool colors influence emotions and atmosphere in art. Participants will experiment with gradients and contrasting palettes before creating two small landscape paintings—one using warm colors and another using cool tones.
Workshop 3: Complementary & Analogous Colors (April 15th 2025)
We’ll dive into color relationships, focusing on how complementary colors create contrast and how analogous colors enhance harmony. Exercises will include color-matching techniques, followed by two paintings: one emphasizing bold complementary contrasts and another using a softer analogous palette.
Workshop 4: Tints, Shades & Tones (April 29th 2025)
This session introduces depth and dimension through tints (adding white), shades (adding black), and tones (adding gray). Participants will complete a monochromatic study and a still life painting, learning how subtle shifts in value can transform their work.
Workshop 5: Color & Composition (May 13th 2025)
This session focuses on how color placement influences composition and visual impact. Participants will explore color dominance, balance, and focal points before creating a finished piece where one color leads the viewer’s eye.
